From the supplier: The Judicial Conference of CA was expected in Feb to request changes to Rule 980 to bar tv cameras from all state courts regardless of the judge’s wishes. A Jan 8 hearing features many media spokespeople defending the 12-year-old rule, as well as representatives of its strongest critics, such as Gov Pete Wilson, State Sen Quentin Kopp, and others. The issue only came to widespread notice with the OJ Simpson trial in 1995, the theatrics of which may have persuaded many formerly amenable judges to bar cameras.
