Sony Cybershot DSCW170 B 10 1MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom with Super Steady Shot Black

The Sony DSC-W170 features an enviable 10.1-Megapixel resolution, Carl Zeiss 5x optical zoom lens, and Sony’s Double Anti-Blur solution for crisp, clear images with a sophisticated, compact body. A large, bright 2.7″ Clear Photo LCD display includes an anti-reflective coating that provides for excellent visibility to help you compose, view, and share photos with superb clarity and color reproduction, even in bright sunlight. In addition, Face Detection technology, Smile Shutter, and Intelligent Scene Recognition elicit stunning detail from special moments. High-resolution images can be enjoyed in 16:9 High-Resolution Mode simply by connecting the camera directly to a Sony BRAVIA HDTV or other compatible HDTV with an optional cradle for optimal HD playback. Because an off-center subject can make your shot more interesting, a 9-point auto-focus measures the focus at 9 precision points instead of 5 for a greater creative freedom to compose your image. Super SteadyShot(R) Optical Image Stabilization compensates for shaky hands and minimizes blur with optical sensors that detect camera movement and send correcting signals to a stabilization lens. Shutter Speed – Auto (1/4 – 1/1,600) / Program Auto (1 – 1/1,600) Aperture Range – Auto (F3.3/F8.0 (W), 2 steps) / Program auto (F3.3/F8.0 (W), 2 steps) with ND Filter White Balance – Automatic, Cloudy, Daylight, Fluorescent 1, Fluorescent 2, Fluorescent 3, Incandescent, and Flash Movie Modes – MPEG VX Fine with Audio (640×480 at 30fps), MPEG VX Standard with Audio (640×480 at 16fps), Presentation (320 x 240 at 8fps) Scene Modes – Beach, High Sensitivity, Landscape, Snow, Soft Snap, Twilight, and Twilight Portrait Flash Modes – Auto, Forced On, Forced Off, and Slow Synch In-Camera Editing – Red-eye reduction, soft edge filter, cross filter, partial color filter, and fish-eye filter

4 Stars Good in daytime, but not so good in low light
The camera takes great pics outside during the daylight hours, but at night or inside the pictures or not that great and have noise. Overall the camera is not bad.
1 Star I wanted to love this camera
I wanted to love this camera. I have a sony cybershot that is many years old and only a 3 MP. It was time to upgrade. I’m partial to the sony brand-so I bought this. What a mistake. I took several pictures inside and outside and the colors were not good. I tried different settings. I read and reread the manual. And I took pictures of things within seconds with my old 3MP camera to compare the two. This camera had more yellows and darker images. I was not happy with 1 picture I took from it. In contrast, almost every picture from my old sony was fine. I am not a camera expert–thus the desire to buy “point and shoot”. But is it too much to expect a new camera to take better pictures than one that is 5 or so years old? In the end I returned it and went with panasonic.
5 Stars Amazing Quality Pictures
i got this camera after having the nikon coolpix which i had for three years. it was horrible their was a 10 second wait in between each picture…and i take alot of pictures. so when i finally bought a new camera i decided to go all out on a good point and shoot. after much searching i found this one. ITS ANMAZING!!! the quality on the picturesis absolutely amazing. the pictures look lifelike. not to mention the camera has a great fell to it and it looks really nice. not too mention its myriad of features. its smile shutter works absolutely amazingly. it always gets a great smile. this is the best camera i have ever seen. i have had it for nearly a year and im still in love with. even compared to other cameras i see people use… these pictures come out so much better. you must get this camera.
5 Stars Not My Decision…
On a short trip to Texas to watch my son’s graduation from AF boot camp, I could not find my video camera. I have been a solid Sony for video and Canon for stills user for over thirty years.
Well my wife (who hates any kind of “gizmology crapola” as she calls most electronic products) told me that the first thing we were going to do, was to buy a camera at the base PX. I felt ill since I am a research-till-I-drop kind-of-guy. She insisted that I buy this little camera on the shelf that was on sale for $175. How could I possibly decide on a family camera without ANY research?
Well, I finally gave in and maybe justified it by saying in my head that it was my wife’s camera. To add to the hesitation it was only available in red (pink) and gold and not available in the only respectable color a camera should come in…BLACK. The sales lady said that she thought the gold version was pretty. Had all my research years finally come down to a sales lady saying a camera is pretty…never…so we bought a gold one.
Now I am totally blown away at “my” golden wonder. As someone who took pride in knowing about shutter speeds, time exposures, gray cards, and f stop values, I can now say..who cares when the pictures are so great!
I have owned Nikon, Canon, and Olympus SLRs and this camera simply takes amazing photos with no manual necessary. The playback with the built-in music slide show is a nice touch. The technology today is so far above my $800 Canon A-1 that was revolutionary at the time. But I remember all those telephoto/macro lenes, tripods, flashes, and other gear that I lugged around for all those years and I really have say goodbye forever.
This W170 is a special camera.
4 Stars Pictures are GREAT! Not meant for moving pics tho
I absolutely looove the pictures from this camera. Its sooo much better than my 5 MP that i had last time. It didnt click that when it said “Steady super shot” that it wasnt meant for spoting events or what not. Nonetheless it was worth the money compared to the deal and a major upgrade to what i had last time
